Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs announced today, the signing of new head coach, Kevin Colley for their upcoming 2013-14 Central Hockey League season.
Colley joins the Sundogs, after coaching the Utah Grizzlies of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) for the past five years. The Connecticut native accepted his first head coaching position in 2008, collecting a 157-152-51 record and leading his team to the playoffs every year since. Sundogs General Manager, Chris Presson said, “I spoke to a number of candidates about our head coaching position. Kevin's name just kept re-surfacing. I like what he is all about. And, for many reasons he became the obvious choice.”
Prior to coaching Colley began his professional hockey career splitting his time between the American Hockey League (AHL) and the ECHL from 1999-05. In October 2005 he made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut for the New York Islanders and four months later retired after sustaining an injury against the Washington Capitals in January 2006.
Colley was named the MVP of the 2003 Kelly Cup Playoffs after winning the championship with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL. Overall, the 5-foot-11 forward played in 396 professional games and tallied 117 goals and 140 assists for 257 points.
When asked why he decided to accept his new position, Colley said, "It was an easy choice to come to Prescott after having the great discussions I had with Chris. We definitely share an important goal, and that is to win a championship! That is my main focus! The dedication to ice a winning team from ownership down is first class. My family and I are extremely excited for the opportunity to join the Arizona Sundogs’ family.
