Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs announced their complete opening game roster for their 2013-14 Central Hockey League season.
The Sundogs will open their season with an 18 man roster; five veterans who have played in more than 301 professional games and seven developmental players who have played in less than 128 professional games.
Arizona elected to waive five playerS from their training camp roster; Alex Tuckerman, Obi Aduba, Johan Ryd, Jordan Peddle and goaltender David Brown. “It was a long day and an even longer week of training camp”, said Sundogs Head Coach, Kevin Colley. “We’ve had to make a lot of hard decisions but at the end of the day I feel like we’ve put together a very strong team.”
They have also signed three new players that will join the team in Brampton for opening night. Netminder Andrew Engelage who finished his 2012-13 season with the Utah Grizzlies of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), where he posted a 2.83 Goals-Against Average (GAA) and a 0.914 Save Percentage in 17 games. During his four year career he has collected a 64-51-9 record in 124 games. Forward, Paul Mcilveen was also signed and has played for the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL from 2010-12 until he suffered an injury ending his season early. In 2011-12 Mcilveen posted a career high of 30 goals and 37 assists for 67 points in 62 games. Leading up to his injury last season he tallied five goals and three assists for eight points in nine games. The third addition to the opening roster is familiar face, Sebastian Geoffrion who skated with the Sundogs at the end of last season in nine games and collected four goals and two assists for six points. Geoffrion joined the team last season after completing four years at University of Alabama-Huntsville and put up eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 106 games.
The Sundogs are set to open on the road in Brampton, Ontario Friday, October 18, 2013 against the new expansion team Brampton Beast. Both teams will face off again on Sunday, October 20, 2013 and again on Monday, October 21, 2013, before returning home to host the Missouri Mavericks for a set of games on October 25, 2013.
