Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs announced the acquisition of veteran defenseman, Michael Couch in a trade from the Brampton Beast.
Couch 30, joins the Sundogs after playing for the newest expansion team in the CHL for 10 games and posted one goal and four assists for five points and held a plus-minus rating of plus 6. He spent the last two seasons from 2011-13 with the Rapid City Rush of the CHL where he collected seven goals and 28 assists for 35 points in 119 games. The 6-foot-4, 208 pound defenseman, also played with recently inked, David Rutherford for the former CHL team, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, during their 2010-11 championship season, where he tallied seven points in 54 games.
“Mike is bringing that veteran presence to our blue line that we’ve missed all year”, said Head Coach, Kevin Colley. “A D-Man of his pedigree is almost impossible to find this time of year and we feel we hit a homerun. Mike is a winner and is hungry to help us get where we need to be.”
The Hanna, Alberta native also saw time playing for the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL from 2007-09 tallying three goals and 18 assists for 21 points in 81 games. During the 2009-10 season Couch played for the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL in 10 games and finished the season with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL putting up 11 points in 60 games.
Couch, will meet the team in St. Charles for their games against the Chill and Quad City Mallards next week.
