Prescott Valley, AZ – More than one million people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the United States and in an effort to help support and build awareness the Arizona Sundogs encouraged their fans to paint the ice with names of family and friends, whose lives have been affected by cancer. The Sundogs will host their Pink in the Rink game on Saturday February 1, 2014 at 7:05pm at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, Arizona.
The Sundogs have partnered with the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation (ZTA) and the American Cancer Society to bring this inspirational dedication to life and help those in their community, pay tribute to such amazing and incredibly driven people who fight every day to live their lives to the fullest and power through their struggles.
Arizona Sundogs General Manager, Chris Presson said “Today is about honoring friends, loved ones and acquaintances who have been impacted by cancer, whether they are still battling or have lost their fight or those that have survived.”
Immediately following their game on Saturday night, the team will auction off specialty designed jerseys for Pink in the Rink. Proceeds raised will be donated to the ZTA Foundation and the American Cancer Society in hopes of one day finding a cure. The team will also have pink game used team autographed, hockey sticks available for purchase in the Sundogs Team Store.
“It’s so nice for the Sundogs to put this together today. I’ve talked to so many people today and they appreciate the opportunity to think about their loved ones”, said Tim’s Toyota Center General Manager, Gary Spiker.
Many of the Sundogs players joined the fans on the ice to recognize their families that have been diagnosed with cancer. Sundogs Team Captain, Jason Morgan has seen cancer affect numerous people in his life. “I think it’s a real touching moment, honoring the loved ones, closest to you that have been affected in some way. Cancer shows no discrimination. My younger sister Jillian was diagnosed with bowel cancer and is now in remission, and in 2011 after a long fight with prostate cancer my grandpa, Pop Rees passed away and in 2008 my father-in-law passed away from bladder cancer.”
Join the Arizona Sundogs, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 7:05pm and help them raise money in the fight against cancer.
