Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs swept the Rapid City Rush at Tim’s Toyota Center Saturday night, their first time in franchise history against the Rush while dealing Rapid City a blowing 4-2 win.
Alex Tuckerman opened the game with a shorthanded goal 3:09 into the first period after Garrett Clarke was sent to the box for a two minute slashing minor. Newly signed Sundogs forward, Riley Emmerson tallied the game winning goal at the 13:35 mark, with assists from Michael Couch and Jason Morgan. Arizona’s third goal came on the power play, with under three minutes remaining in the opening frame from Kevin Baker and helpers from Matt McCready and Alex Tuckerman.
Rapid City got on the board 54 seconds into the second period with a goal from Sean Erickson on a 5-on-3 power play after Mark Isherwood was called for slashing and Garrett Clarke was issued two for unsportsmanlike conduct. Tuckerman collected his third point of the night after Jason Morgan scored Arizona’s final goal while on the power play, 15:19 in the final period. The Rush tallied their second goal 16:07 in the third, though it wasn’t enough for the win.
Andrew Engelage collected his fifth consecutive win, making 27 saves. Arizona outshot Rapid City 31-29. The Sundogs were 2-7 on the power play tonight and Rush were 1-9.
Next week the Arizona Sundogs will host the Brampton Beast in their first trip to Arizona. Action begins on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 6:35pm at Tim’s Toyota Center.
