Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs ended the Tulsa Oilers five game winning streak Saturday night with a 4-2 win at the BOK Center. Sundogs leading goal scorer, Kevin Baker tallied four points. The Sundogs are in a three way tie for sixth place, with 51 points.
Arizona came out ready for action posting two goals in the opening period, both tallied by Bryan Cameron. Cameron’s first came 14:48 with a pass from Kevin Baker when he lifted the puck past the glove side of Tulsa’s goalie Brad Fogal. Cameron’s second goal came 3:06 later from Baker and Jason Morgan. Early in the second period Garrett Clarke received a scoring opportunity when he was tripped on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot which was unsuccessful. With under three minutes remaining in the second, Tulsa’s Ben Gordon solved Andrew Engelage to close their two goal gap heading into the final period.
The Sundogs took advantage of the power play after Scott Macaulay was issued two minutes for tripping and Baker came in with the goal 2:07 into the third period. The Oilers once again cut the Sundogs lead by one goal when Blair Macaulay scored on a breakaway and with 58 seconds remaining in regulation Sebastian Geoffrion scored an empty net goal pushing the Sundogs to a 4-2 win. Baker collected four points while Cameron and Morgan each posted two apiece.
Andrew Engelage stood tall between the pipes making 20 saves. The Sundogs outshot the Oilers 31-22. Arizona was 1-5 on the man-advantage while Tulsa was 0-2.
Both teams will head on the road where they will continue their four game series at Tim’s Toyota Center on Tuesday and Wednesday when the puck drops at 6:35pm.
