TEAM CANADA TAKES GOLD IN WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY

Prescott Valley, AZ – Team Canada took the gold medal in Women’s Ice Hockey after an intense overtime game, edging Team USA eight minutes into overtime, at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Meaghan Mikkelson, a member of Team Canada and two-time gold medalist is married to former Sundogs goaltender Scott Reid who played in 44 games with the Sundogs during the 2011-12 season.

Over the course of Mikkelson’s career and her seventh season with the National Women’s Hockey Team she has earned two Olympic goal medals, a gold medal at the 2012 IIHF Women’s World Championships and four silver medals in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2013.

Thursday’s Olympic game in Sochi saw the U.S. on top after two periods with the Americans leading Canada 2-0. Canada came back in the third posting two goals in the final minutes of regulation tying the game 2-2. Marie-Philip Poulin scored the game winner eight minutes into overtime securing gold for Team Canada.

“What a great moment for them. I watched her workout at Tim’s Toyota Center many times while Scott was with us and it is obvious why she is an Olympic champion”, said Sundogs General Manager, Chris Presson.
