Sundogs News

Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs clinched the final playoff spot in the 2014 Playoffs after Wichita Thunder fell to the Allen Americans Sunday afternoon. This will be the fifth time the Sundogs will advance to the post-season. Coincidentally, Arizona will host the Wichita Thunder next week for a three-game series, whom the Sundogs were swept by in the first round of the playoffs last season.

Wichita received one point in their shootout loss Sunday night putting them six points behind Arizona. In an unlikely circumstance that the Thunder receives all six points next week, as set forth in the Central Hockey League’s (CHL) rule book, Arizona would win the tiebreaker. The first tiebreaker is based on wins, minus shootout wins. The Sundogs currently have 30 wins, four of those shootout wins, resulting in 26 eligible wins. Should Wichita tally all three wins next week they would have 23 eligible wins after their six shootout wins, this season.

Arizona continues to battle to secure a higher seed spot, sitting no more than two points behind Quad City, Tulsa and Brampton.
