Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs won their first of 3 games against the Denver Cutthroats Wednesday night.
Denver opened the scoring 4:04 into the first period when Troy Schwab scored with assists from Brad Smyth and Ben Wilson. Mario Boilard of the Cutthroats took a 2 minute penalty for boarding and put the Sundogs on their first powerplay of the night. 30 seconds later Kyrzakos tied up the game and assists by Mario Larocque and Cody Purves.
The newest addition to the Sundogs’ lineup, Derek LeBlanc made his first goal with the team at 16:14 with assists by Kyle Chipchura and Chad Nehring. Mickael Bedard was called for Tripping at 15:27 and 90 seconds later Jean-Philipp Chabot of the Denver Cutthroats scored on the powerplay and evened the score. The 2nd period finished with Kyle Schussler (assist by Chipchura) and Kyrzakos (assists by Jason Morgan and Cody Purves) both scored propelling the Sundogs to a 2 point lead.
The Cutthroats’ AJ Gale (assists by Troy Schwab and Kyle Quincey) score at 8:38 on the powerplay. Arizona’s, Chad Nehring answered back scoring at 2:19 pulling the Sundogs to a 5-3 victory over the Denver Cutthroats.
The Sundogs were 1 for 5 on the powerplay and the Cutthroats were 2 for 6 on the powerplay tonight. The Sundogs out shot Denver 42-26, Adam Russo took the win stopping 23 shots tonight. Arizona is now 4-2-2 with 10 points in the league standings. Arizona and Denver meet again on Friday night at Tim’s Toyota Center and the puck drops at 7:05pm.
