Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs picked up their second win against the Denver Cutthroats tonight at Tim’s Toyota Center. The Sundogs were unstoppable tonight with five goals.
Arizona came out strong in the first period registering three of their five goals. Johan Ryd, opened the game three minutes in, making his 2nd goal of the season, Mickael Bedard and Zack Firlotte were credited with assists. Jeff Kyrzakos picked up two goals, the first coming on the power-play when Denver’s Jean-Phillip Chabot was sent to the box for slashing. Kyle Hood, Adam Smyth and David Schlemko all came in with assists. Three minutes left, Denver’s Gabriel Beaupre put one past Arizona’s David Brown. Arizona closed the first period outshooting Denver 20-9 and leading on the scoreboard 5-2.
The Sundogs locked in their win, during the second period when Mario Larocque scored their second power-play goal of the evening. Chad Nehring picked up a shorthanded goal halfway through the period when Hood was sent to the penalty box for slashing. Denver pulled their goaltender Kent Patterson after giving up 3 goals and Kieran Millan stepped in between the pipes for the remainder of the game. The Cutthroats scored their second and final goal of the night when Gabe Gauthier was able to let a wrister off with two minutes left in the third period closing the deficit to three points.
The Sundogs outshot the Cutthroats tonight 39-34 with the final score 5-2. Arizona was 2-4 on the power-play and Denver was 0-4 on the power-play. The Arizona Sundogs finish out their three-game home stand against the Denver Cutthroats tomorrow night at Tim’s Toyota Center. The Sundogs head on the road to Denver where they will meet the Cutthroats again for a two-game series.
