Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs dropped the game tonight at Tim’s Toyota Center against the Allen Americans in their sixth shootout this season.
The Sundogs and Americans battled back and forth tonight sending them into a shootout after neither team could break the tie in regulation. Both teams picked up a point in the first frame when Arizona’s Pascal Morency scored his second of the season and first of the night. Trevor Ludwig picked up the point for Allen two minutes later with Anthony Maiani and Darryl Bootland registering the assists. 68 penalty minutes were racked up in the first period when each team came to fisticuffs, resulting in two game misconducts for Arizona’s Kevin Petovello and Americans’ Jason Deitsch.
The Sundogs and Americans were still tit for tat in the second both scoring two goals each. Jake Hauswirth and Kyle Hood scored for the Sundogs and Scotty Howes tallied the Americans two goals. Darryl Bootland was credited with the game winning goal tonight when he made the only goal in the shootout. Adam Russo skated away with 32 saves for Arizona and Steve Silverthorn with 33. The Sundogs were 0-6 tonight on the power play while Allen was 2-9 on the power play.
The Sundogs are headed on a 10-day road trip where they will play in three different cities. The Sundogs return home for a three-game set against the Bloomington Blaze at the end of December.
