Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs dropped the first of a three game series against the Bloomington Blaze Friday night, 6-3 at Tim’s Toyota Center.
The Bloomington Blaze scored five minutes into the first period when Jon Booras found the net. Arizona quickly tied it up with a goal from Ron Meyers and assist from Jason Morgan, but were unable, to gain momentum. Blaze’s Tyler Gron scored the game winning goal with three minutes left in the opening period giving Bloomington a one point lead heading into the first intermission.
Bloomington scored three goals in the second period, with two coming on the power play. Gron and Booras both registered Blaze’s goals and Booras picked up a hat trick in the process. The Sundogs Mike Glaicar cut their deficit in half after he tallied his first goal of the season when the puck deflected off the left post and found the back of the net. Morgan was credited with his second point of the evening.
Arizona sent in relief goaltender Adam Russo for the final period. David Brown made 17 saves in the first 40 minutes and saw 22 shots on goal. Jake Hauswirth of Arizona continued his point streak making a goal just under four minutes into the 3rd period and an assist from Kyle Schussler. Sebastien Trudeau was able to seal the game with a wrister coming off the left wing of Russo. Russo finished the night with nine saves. Arizona was 0-4 on the power play while Bloomington was 2-5. Arizona was outshot 32-29. Both teams meet again tomorrow night at Tim’s Toyota Center as they continue their battle.
