Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs defeated the Allen Americans in overtime Friday night with a 4-3 win at Tim’s Toyota Center.
The Sundogs lit the lamp early in the opening frame with a goal from Arizona’s leading goal scorer Chad Nehring and assists from Jason Morgan and Derek LeBlanc. Arizona scored again, with a goal from Jeff Kyrzakos and assists credited to Johan Ryd and Zack Firlotte. The Americans closed the gap when Darryl Bootland put them on the board with three minutes left in the 1st period.
The Americans scored the only goal of the second period and tied the game with Bootland’s second goal of the night and Brett Skinner picking up the assist.
The Americans pulled ahead in the third period after Anthony Maiani chipped the puck in the net past veteran goaltender Adam Russo. Matt McCready scored with 12 seconds left in regulation after Arizona pulled Russo allowing for an extra attacker and forcing the game into overtime. Kevin Petovello scored the game winning goal 1:43 into overtime and pushed the Sundogs to a 4-3 win over the Americans.
Russo took the win for the Sundogs blocking 27 shots. Arizona outshot Allen 42-30 and neither team capitalized on the power play, Arizona 0-3 and Allen 0-2.
